Bedwetting, or nocturnal enuresis, is a common problem for people of all ages and with a variety of needs. Nocturnal enuresis is the involuntary release of one’s bladder after the usual age when bladder control comes into play. Bedwetting is “primary” when a child has not yet had a prolonged period of being dry and is still learning. It is “secondary” nocturnal enuresis when the child or adult is still bedwetting after having learned nighttime bladder control. Bedwetting can affect those from all stages of life, from children to teens to adults, though it is is one of the most common pediatric-health issues. Most bedwetting, however, is just a developmental delay. Specific medical conditions are the cause of only 5-10% of cases. More often, family history is the root of a bedwetting issue.
